U.S. Cellular Offers Solutions To Help Meet Your New Year’s Resolutions
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (Dec. 29, 2015) – Panhandle residents are setting goals to improve their health in the New Year. Many of today’s smartphones offer apps and features that can help keep you on track and ensure you stick to your resolutions throughout 2016.
A recent U.S. Cellular Better Moments survey1 shows the reliance on smartphones for fitness and health. The survey reveals 22 percent of smartphone users keep track of exercise with an app. When it comes to healthy eating, 18 percent look up calories in their food, and 6 percent monitor blood sugar.

U.S. Cellular recommends the following apps and mobile devices to help achieve your 2016 fitness resolutions.
Devices. Beginners can look no further than their own wireless devices to get started. Many of the new smartphones can double as health trackers, such as the 4G LTE Apple iPhone 6S. The built-in barometer and accelerometer can measure the elevation climbed and distance traveled during exercise. For Samsung Galaxy S6 owners, the rounded back of the phone can be used as a heart rate sensor that works with the S Health app. This feature is also available on the Samsung Gear S2.
Lose It! tracks your caloric intake and monitors your diet, helping you manage your weekly calorie budget and ensure that you are consuming the proper foods. It also integrates with sites such as Facebook and Twitter so you can stay connected with friends and family across country to allow you to motivate each other towards your 2016 fitness goals.
Fooducate (Free for iOS, Android) Winner of first prize in the U. S. Surgeon General’s Healthy App Challenge, this community-focused app has received strong media praise from USAToday and The New York Times. Fooducate goes beyond counting calories to help users lose weight and live a healthy life. Maintain a healthy diet by tracking the quality of calories, not just the quantity, and scan over 250,000 barcodes to see a specific nutrition grade (A, B, C or D). Fooducate also integrates seamlessly with Apple’s Health app, allowing users to compare calorie consumption and burning.
iBP Blood Pressure ($0.99 for Android and iOS) This blood pressure tracking app uses colors to indicate normal or high readings. It also analyzes data, to create graphs that illustrate trends over time. This is a great app for those who are beginning or enhancing their exercise routines.
