“Run For It” Documentary Film Series About Elections Hosted By Byrd Center

Beginning with the acclaimed 2004 film IRON JAWED ANGELS on October 3, 2012, the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies at Shepherd University will host a series of recent films that pertain to voting and elections.  The series, titled RUN FOR IT! consists of four films.  Each screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by a person versed in the issues raised by the film.  All showings will take place in the Byrd CLS auditorium at 213 North King Street on the campus of Shepherd University.  The series is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, October 3, 6:30 pm:
Iron Jawed Angels (2004).  The epic struggle to win voting rights for American women depicted as a historical drama starring Hillary Swank and Anjelica Huston.  This event is cosponsored with the Jefferson County League of Women Voters.

Tuesday, October 9, 7 pm:
The War Room (1993).  A behind the scenes account of 1992 Clinton campaign, featuring James Carville and George Stephanopoulos.  Discussion leader: Dr. John Splaine

Wednesday, October 17, 7 pm:
Street Fight (2005). Each round of the hard fought 2002 mayoral campaign of Cory Booker in Newark, New Jersey is presented.  Discussion via Skype with Director Marshall Curry.

Tuesday, October 23, 7 pm:
Our Brand is Crisis (2005).  The involvement of U.S. campaign consultants, veterans of the campaigns of Bill Clinton, in the 2002 Bolivian presidential election is chronicled.  Discussion leader: Dr. David Hostetter

Tuesday, October 30, 7 pm:
The United States of ALEC with Bill Moyers
Analyses the political role of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and efforts to oppose it.
