Pikeside UMC Ash Wednesday Morning Worship Services
Join Pikeside UMC at one of our three Ash Wednesday Services on the morning of February 14th. These services have been scheduled to allow worshipers the ability to attend service without impacting work or school schedules. Services will begin on the half-hour at 06:30, 07:00 and 07:30 a.m.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and marks the beginning of a period of reflection and repentance. In the Bible, sprinkling oneself with ashes was traditionally a sign of one’s sorrow for having committed sins. In the Christian tradition, Ash Wednesday also marks the beginning of preparation for the understanding of the death and resurrection of Christ. The particular symbolism of ashes for this day comes from an ancient Christian practice in which the ashes from last year’s Palm Sunday palms are burned, blessed and then on the first day of Lent, the pastor marks a cross on the forehead of each worshiper.
Pikeside United Methodist Church is located at 25 Paynes Ford Road, Martinsburg WV and our facilities are handicapped accessible. Please call 304-263-4633 or visit http://www.pikesideumc.org for more information.
