New Art Exhibit Featuring the Photos of Don Ranelli at South Jefferson Public Library

The South Jefferson Public Library, located at 49 Church Street, Summit Point, WV, is pleased to announce a display and sale of photographs taken by Don Ranelli for the months of July and August, 2017.  Don, the library’s founder and President of its board until his death in July of 2010, was an avid and talented amateur photographer. He traveled whenever possible and took photographs of landmarks and scenery as well as people and architecture, but he had favorite subjects for his picture taking!

The main subjects he enjoyed were trains and lighthouses. He knew their histories and many times added that information to the back or front of his favorites. Lighthouses he snapped photos of were in Hawaii and states of California, Oregon and Washington, Maine, Nova Scotia, New Jersey, Connecticut, Long Island, Delaware, Maryland and Florida, the Outer Banks and more as well as the Great Lakes, especially Lake Michigan.

Train photos include modern trains and stations, but also steam engines from all over the US and even Canada. In his lifetime he belonged “Rail Fans” and got many opportunities to travel with them to ride and take photos of trains in the Grand Canyon and Canadian Rockies as well as West Virginia’s Cass Railroad and so many more. He founded a group of friends called the “Train Gang” and arranged trips with and for them to ride trains in many states!

A great many of his photos, some framed, some enlarged, and some just snapshots, will be for sale in the library during July and August, 2017. ALL PROFITS from this sale will go towards the new building fund for a needed addition to the South Jefferson Library. This display can be viewed in the meeting room during library hours: Monday through Thursday 10-7, Saturdays 10-5, and Sundays 1-5. The library is closed Fridays. Come find a favorite and help Don to continue supporting our community library even now!! “
