League of Women Voters presents Community Service Award

The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County presented it annual Community Service Award to Meals on Wheels of Jefferson County for its outstanding service to homebound people who for any reason cannot prepare at least one balanced meal a day, regardless of age, infirmity, race gender or neighborhood.

The League recognizes the organization not only for its reliability in feeding people who otherwise would go hungry, but also for the caring attitude of volunteers who sometimes recognize problems that might go unaddressed when the health or living conditions of clients need attention.
Clients are asked to pay for their meals, according to their ability to do so, but most funding comes from direct donations, United Way, and the Combined Federal Campaign.
Donations are welcome and volunteers are always needed to deliver meals, pack meals or provide friendly visits to clients.  Call 304 725 1601.

THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS works to encourage informed and active participation in the democratic process through voter registration, education and promotion of fair, active and open government.  The League of Women Votes of Jefferson County neither supports not opposes candidates but is engaged in local, state and national issues of importance to our community.
