Jefferson Arts Council May Exhibition Opening Reception May 5th

The Jefferson Arts Council (JAC) is excited to announce the May exhibition to be shown at the Fire Hall Gallery in Charles Town with the opening reception scheduled for Friday, May 5, from 5pm to 8pm.

The exhibition will feature the photography and pottery produced by members of the Potomac Valley Master Naturalists and will consist of work from four themes-birds, animals, landscape, and people in nature. Exhibitors included in the show include Charlotte Fremaux, Clark Dixon, Danny Dalton, David Pennock, Joy Bridy, Larry Smith, Paul Breitenbach, Stan Oaks, Tom Tsakeris, Virginia Winston, and Wendylee Maddox.

Chartered in 2006 by the Potomac Valley Audubon Society in conjunction with the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, the Potomac Valley Master naturalists are dedicated to environmental stewardship and education and the organization is beginning its 11th year. Certification by the West Virginia DNR as a Master Naturalist requires 64 hours of specialized training along with 30 hours of community service in the state. After certification, members volunteer their time and knowledge to lead birding walks, participate in tree plantings, and work with local schools on environmental awareness programs. Training leading to state certification is offered once each year beginning in March. Registration begins in January. Class size is limited to 25 so it is important that individuals interested in the program apply early. More information may be found at

The Jefferson Arts Council shares the gallery space with the Washington Street Artists’ Cooperative and each organization features a new show every other month on a rotating schedule. The Fire Hall Gallery is located in downtown Charles Town at 108 N. George Street. Gallery hours are from 10am to 5pm seven days a week. JAC is a membership organization that serves to support all the arts in Jefferson County. Membership information may be gained by speaking with JAC members at the opening reception or by attending the next member’s meeting to be held at the Charles Town Library on Monday, June 12 at 6:00pm.
