In the Arms of Artists, a silent art auction with delicious food by caterer, Carol Sanders, drinks bar and live music by the delightful string trio, The Panhandlers, will be held on Sunday, March 11th, 2018 at Shepherdstown Community Center, Shepherdstown, WV from 5 to 8 pm.
On display for bidding will be an enticing array of diverse works including original paintings, photography, clothing, jewelry, basketry, ceramics, glass and more. The festive gathering will also give the people of the community the opportunity to show their care and support for Jim Shumate, an extraordinary artist, who, five years ago, was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration, a condition which has confined him to a wheel chair and taken away his ability to do his work.
Jim has enjoyed a rich career decorating clothing with beautiful patterns as well as enriching living spaces with truly exquisite murals of realistically detailed landscape scenes, animals and fantasy. There will be samples of his work on display and a tribute to him by his spouse, sculptor Gil Garcia.
There is no set charge for the event, however, donations at the door will be gratefully accepted to cover costs. All proceeds from the silent auction will go to Good Shepherd Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers.
