Gardeners Exchange Goup announces first meeting of 2018

The Gardeners Exchange Group (GEG) is an informal network of avid gardeners from Jefferson and Berkeley Counties, and beyond. Our purpose is to bring together people who share an interest in the practical, hands-on challenges and pleasures of gardening. Members are young and old; men and women; professionals, children, retired and working people; master gardeners and beginners. The gardening interests of GEG members are just as diverse: wildflowers to roses, fruit trees to mushrooms, water gardening to Xeriscaping.

GEG welcomes new members! You may participate at whatever level meets your interests and schedule. No previous gardening experience is necessary. Check the calendar to find out the location of the next meeting; you are welcome to simply show up; we have no membership requirements. We (usually) meet on the third Saturday of the month, April through October.

April 21 at 10 AM is the first meeting this year and it will take place in Morgan County. First we visit Star Eagle Studio and Gardens, with Joyce Morningstar, owner of Star Eagle Studio and Gardens. She will discuss growing herbs, vegetables, flowers and fruit trees by organic methods. Joyce’s nursery is based on the idea of self-sufficiency — growing our own food and making our own medicines.

At noon we visit Dawn White’s residence where the Department of Environmental Protection under the direction of WV State Forester Herb Peddicord planted 34 varieties of flowering trees, including Smoke trees, Fringe trees, and Kentucky Coffee trees.  She also maintains extensive gardens. We plan to eat a brown bag (BYO) lunch there.
