Gala Festival of Dance conclude Dance Works 2017
Over 150 young dancers will find their spotlights on Sunday, March 26 when the community collaboration known as Dance Works 2017 takes the stage at 3:00 pm at Musselman High School. The matinee entertainment features fourteen performances in various moods and styles by students from Berkeley, Jefferson, and Washington counties.
In a program developed jointly by the Berkeley Arts Council and the directors of several local dance companies and schools, visiting professional who specialize in various styles of dance come to local venues to inspire and instruct students dancers from ages 9 to 18. In addition to ballet, modern, jazz, and musical theatre, this year’s program offers tap instruction, pilates/yoga training and even a class in acting for dancers.
Master classes take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26 in four dance-friendly venues in Hagerstown. The event has grown in its fourth year, and there wasn’t a group of large spaces in Martinsburg available. The move to Hagerstown may suggest a wider regional festival in coming years.
