Fmr. Del. John Buckley for WV Senate Buckley Praises Pro-Life Activists

Hardy Co., WV - John Buckley, Libertarian candidate for United States Senate, today praised the grass-roots activists who sustain the drive in West Virginia to restore legal protection to unborn babies. Buckley, a former state Delegate in Virginia, declared:

“I have a 40-year record of pro-life commitment, and I join the tens of thousands of West Virginians who are working tirelessly for the pro-life cause.”

Buckley issued his statement on the eve of the state convention of West Virginians for Life, meeting in Fairmont on Saturday, September 27.

Explained Buckley: “In this election, there is an unusual juxtaposition:”

“I am a pro-life Libertarian, whereas my Republican opponent, Congresswoman Capito, favors retaining the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.”

“I believe human life begins at conception. Thus even a government limited as much as I would like it to be has a proper role in protecting the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

“The slogan of my campaign, ‘Live & Let Live,’ is a deliberate double-entendre. I intend to compete vigorously for the support of pro-life voters.

“There’s no justifiable reason for pro-life voters to abandon their convictions this year and vote for a pro-Roe v. Wade politician. The election of a pro-Roe v. Wade Republican Senator would be a setback for the pro-life movement in the U.S. Congress, not a step forward

“I ask pro-lifers to pray hard on this decision and to choose life. If we give away our votes so casually, we’ll still be marching for life for another 40 years.

“It’s time to get tougher. My election as a pro-life Libertarian would surely stiffen the spines of countless weak-kneed Republican elected officials who only court pro-lifers when the going is easy.”
