Accident on Route 522 in Morgan County Snarls Traffic
At 4:17 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, Morgan County 9-1-1 received a call from a cell phone in reference to a reported three vehicle accident in the area of Myers Road and Berkmore Plaza on Valley Road (Route 522), approximately one mile south of Berkeley Springs. The accident was reported to involve one 18-wheeler and two passenger cars. The 9-1-1 director said the caller was unsure as to how many patients but indicated there appeared to be at least one. The first emergency resource arrived on scene just minutes later.
Shortly after the first unit arrived on scene, authorities decided to shut down Valley Road for the safety of the parties involved in the wreck, for the safety of responders, and other commuters.
Emergency responders involved were WV State Police, Morgan County EMS Company 7, Washington County, Md., EMS Company 59, and Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company 1.
Witnesses at the nearby Dollar General, who wished to remain anonymous, said a white SUV collided with a tractor trailer at Berkmore Plaza entrance. One witness said the front of the SUV was smashed into the truck, which came to a stop in front of the Dollar General. According to the witness, a victim in the SUV had to be extricated. A third vehicle hit the guard rail trying to apparently miss the accident.
At 5:15 p.m., the last emergency response resource departed the incident scene.
