Hike High Rock-Shockeys Knob in Sleepy Creek Wildlife Refuge

Join Sierra Club – Eastern Panhandle for this 7-mile moderate hike in Sleepy Creek Wildlife Refuge in southern Berkeley County, WV. Involving 960 feet in elevation gain, this hike includes sections of an old forest access road and hilly trails, including sections of the Tuscarora Trail to High Rock Overlook. Expect some good views and short but vigorous climbs. There are two stream crossings, so hiking poles or walking sticks may be helpful. Open to all adults and minors (with parental permission or accompanied by an adult) prepared for the distance and a moderately strenuous hike. Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome.

Bring water, lunch, a snack if desired, and protection from ticks and other bugs. We will carry on in light rain but cancel in case of a downpour. There is no charge for this hike. Note that the meeting place is at a small parking lot off gravel Historic Packhorse Trail. Share rides if possible.
