155th Anniversary Remembrance of the Battles of Williamsport and Falling Waters

On Friday evening July 6 @ 7 p.m., The Springfield Barn, 12 Springfield Lane, Williamsport, Md., will be the site of a free event commemorating the 155th anniversary of the July 6, 1863 Battle of Williamsport and the July 14, 1863 Battle of Falling Waters, Md.

Speakers include Ted Alexander, George Franks III, and Steve French. Special appearance by Rick Imboden, great grandson of Gen. John Imboden and period music performed by the Hancock Civil War String Band and Mollie Rebuck. Also, relics from the battles, book sales, period re-enactors, artist Garnet Jex Civil War exhibit and more.

About the Speakers:
Ted Alexander is the former chief historian at the Antietam National Battlefield and a nationally known authority on Lee’s Retreat from Gettysburg. He is the author of numerous Civil War books and over 200 related articles. Mr. Alexander is the founder of the popular Chambersburg Civil War Seminars and has received many historical awards.

George Franks III-Is the leading expert on the Battle of Falling Waters 1863. He is the author of the popular “Battle of Falling Waters: Custer, Pettigrew and the End of the Gettysburg Campaign.” Currently, Mr. Franks, who lives on the battlefield in the historic Donnelly House, is the President of The Battle of Falling Waters 1863 Foundation, Inc. He is the former President of the Capitol Hill Civil War Round Table and recipient of the Henry Kyd Douglas Award.

Steve French-is the author of “Imboden’s Brigade in the Gettysburg Campaign,” a book that received the 2008 Bachelder-Coddington Award, the 2009 Gettysburg Civil War Round Table Book Award and the Jefferson Davis Gold Medal. He is a leading expert on Lee’s Retreat from Gettysburg and the Battle of Williamsport. Mr. French is the author of numerous articles that have appeared in The Washington Times, Gettysburg Magazine. Crossfire: The Magazine of the American Civil War UK, and many other publications. His new book “Phantoms of the South Fork: Captain McNeill and His Rangers” was published by Kent State University Press.(2017)
