Heavy Metal Playground Ribbon Cutting, Friday May 25

HAGERSTOWN, MARYLAND –  Visit Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and CVB member Heavy Metal Playground are planning an official ribbon cutting for May 25 at 2:00 p.m. The business, owned by Mark Stevanus, opened its doors last summer but will be open for its first full season this year. Demonstrations and Playtime will begin at 12:00 p.m. and will resume after the ribbon cutting at 2:00 p.m., ending at 4:00 p.m. The media and public are invited.

Heavy Metal Playground offers a unique, once-in-a-lifetime, bucket-list experience to operate heavy equipment. Participants can use the equipment to dig, push and scoop dirt, smash, drop and bury things. If you have a competitive streak, you’ll love challenging others to stack tires or play basketball and football. All equipment is heated and air conditioned for comfort.

“Mark your calendars and get ready to rock and roll on some heavy equipment,” Stevanus said, referring to the May 25 grand opening. His business has some exciting things in store for the 2018 season including new certified equipment training. “Heavy Metal Playground has partnered with Hagerstown Community College to provide equipment training. The need for skilled workers has increased and this is a great opportunity to get into the construction field.” Training is offered for excavator, skid loader and backhoe operation.

Stevanus is also working with groups and non-profits to provide free training to veterans, rehabilitated adults, teen groups and more through the new Heavy Metal Playground Community Program.  “We want to help make a difference in people’s lives,” he said.

“This unique attraction is the only one of its kind on the East Coast. It offers great fun for all visitors, whether travelling for leisure or business. Conferences can participate in team building opportunities and families on vacation will love the fun that is open for the whole family,” said Dan Spedden, president of the CVB.

Heavy Metal Playground is an attraction that provides entertainment for all ages, 8 or older, whether the visit is for family fun, a birthday party, youth group, sports team, bachelor or bachelorette party, or corporate team building. The unique experience at Heavy Metal Playground is especially effective for team building. It maximizes people’s retention of both education and experience. An inspirational corporate trainer on staff can help take your business to the next level.

Heavy Metal Playground is conveniently located on Route 40 / Old National Pike, east of Hagerstown, next to Family Recreation Park. You can book your heavy equipment adventure now for the entire 2018 season. Gift cards are also available.
